'TRON 3' Movie Update: Sequel In The Works? Garrett Hedlund Spills The Beans

“TRON 3” movie plans will still be pushing through.

“TRON Legacy” didn’t do well in the box-office despite its very promising cast and production. While fans had to accept that the movie didn’t do particularly well, they still hoped that Disney would approve a “TRON 3” movie.

Disney Blogs reported that there was some buzz and rumors going around that the “TRON 3” movie was already going into production, but it got cancelled after another anticipated film “Tomorrowland” didn’t do so well at the box-office. While fans were able to get their fix with the animated series “TRON: Uprising,” it still didn’t measure up to the scale of a full-blown movie production.

However, Garrett Hedlund broke the silence and mentioned a possible revival of “TRON 3.” On an interview with Comic Book he said, “I haven’ t been told it’s totally dead. Ever since we did ‘Legacy,’ we knew that to have another story follow it up , it had to be concrete and exciting.”

He continued, “Disney needed to have the right story go forward. I think it was going to introduce some things that were as exciting as ‘Legacy’ was and then some.”

Hedlund did not give any other details but he did say he was open to playing Sam Flynn in the future. Just like how Jeff Bridges returned as Kevin Flynn, Hedlund might be the one to get a digital face if the next “Tron” movie is still years down the road.

One thing for sure is that he is definitely game to do another film.

According to Slashfilm, the “TRON 3” movie title was called “Tron: Ascension” and was supposed to start official production in October this year.
