Kathy Griffin Canceled: Bravo Cancels Comedian’s Talk Show, Griffin Announces News During Stand-Up Engagement

Kathy Griffin’s chat show on the Bravo network, Kathy, would not be returning for a third season. Griffin announced the news herself during a stand-up engagement on Cincinatti Friday, the Cincinatti Enquirer reported. Kathy told the audience that she heard of the news the day before.

She later confirmed the news of her show being canceled on Twitter when she responded to a tweet by Perez Hilton, about the news.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton said of the news, “Although the ratings were never super high, the comedienne's series managed to beat the odds and come back for a second year in January, and we had hoped that a similar scenario would pan out that way again!”

The show’s second season began in January, but it was bumped from its primetime 10 p.m. slot last February. Representatives for both Griffin and Bravo did not return requests for comment on the news.

Griffin has been with Bravo for years and has been a mainstay on the network. She has been with Bravo since her breakthrough reality series, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List debuted on the cable network in 2005. It ran for six seasons. Her brand of humor has concentrated heavily on other Bravo programs, like its Real Housewives universe.

Last month, it was reported that Griffin has shot a test pilot for CNN with friend Anderson Cooper, whose daytime talk show Anderson has also been canceled. The famous CNN host’s daytime talk show was canceled due to low ratings.

Fans of both Kathy and Anderson are hoping that the pairs, who have been hosting the cable network’s New Year’s Eve broadcast for years with much success, will debut a show on CNN soon.

Kathy airs Thursdays on the Bravo network at 11:30 p.m. Previous guests from the show like legendary actress Jane Fonda has called the comedian, “basically insane” and fellow talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel has commented “It’s very hot in hell, Kathy.” Chelsea Handler has quipped while on the program, “You’re going to have to bleep all of this.” Kathy is joined in the show by what she claims as her often intoxicated mother, Maggie, and assistant, Tiffany. She also features a panel of friends, co-workers and regular people who are able to provide opinions on the headlines every week.

Like her own brand of comedy, Kathy famously uses profanity and edgy language throughout the show. Despite its sharp edge though, the Bravo talk show has featured some big name guests including singers like Josh Groban and her best friend, Anderson Cooper.
