“Star Wars” R2-D2 has become an airplane.

With the “Star Wars” hype in full swing, more and more people are getting joining the bandwagon. The latest to join is All Nippon Airlines (ANA) which is known to be Japan’s largest airline.

According to Disney Blog, the “Star Wars” R2-D2 plane is part of the new partnership with Disney’s Lucasfilm. The good news is that seeing an R2-D2 plane in the sky is just the first of three “Star Wars” themed planes this month. The next unveiling will be in November and will be a Boeing 767-300 with a design inspired by BB-8, a new character from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Not only will the plane look like the loyal droid from the “Star Wars” franchise, but the in-flight entertainment will consist of all six of the ‘’Star Wars” movies available for watching. CNN reported that this is the first time any of the films have been shows as in-flight entertainment.

The Boeing Dreamliner 787-9 was transformed into C390’s droid companion through an extensive painting process. A video supplied by Boeing to GeekWire was uploaded to show fans the step-by-step process of making the “Star Wars” R2-D2 airplane.

The whole process started with the massive airplane getting primed, stenciled and then getting a couple of coats of silver grey paint. The stencils are then added once again before spraying on the bold blue paint. After the paint has dried, the stencils are then removed and the R2-D2 transformation is complete.

USA Today reported that the plane will begin flying paying passengers on Oct. 18 where the first scheduled flight is a run from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport all the way to Vancouver, Canada. After this the R2-D2 plane will fly between Japan and cities in the U.S., Australia, Europe, Indonesia and China.
