Super Junior's Eunhyuk And Donghae Begin Mandatory Military Service

This week, two members of the K-pop megagroup Super Junior begin their two-year absence from the Korean entertainment industry to fulfill their mandatory military service.

Eunhyuk (Lee Hyukjae) enlisted in active duty on Tuesday, while Donghae (Lee Donghae) will begin service as a conscripted officer on Thursday. The pair join two other members of Super Junior who are currently serving in the Korean military.

Eunhyuk is the seventh member of Super Junior to begin his military service.

Prior to enlisting, Eunhyuk said goodbye to fans via an Instagram post where he revealed his shaved head. Both fans and members of Super Junior sent the rapper off in a farewell gathering.

Before entering the army at the Division 102 military training base in Gangwon Province, Eunhyuk spoke to reporters, reports the K-pop Herald.

"As a proud South Korean man, I will faithfully carry out my military duty," Eunhyuk said. "Thank you all for loving me so much all this time."

Pictures from the ceremony showed Eunhyuk offering fans and media a deep, full-body bow, and tearing up as he said farewell.

Super Junior members Leeteuk and Kangin attended the event and offered their junior moral support and hugs as he began his active duty.

Fans attended the event with banners and signs filled with encouraging messages showing their support for Eunhyuk.

Even though he was absent from the ceremony ahead of his own enlistment, Donghae wrote a touching message to Eunhyuk on his Instagram account.

"The friend who I love, Hyuk," Donghae wrote.

"We may be physically separated but let's be close in our hearts. I'll support you from afar and pray for your health and safety so that we can meet again soon. I love you, my friend Hyuk. Thank you ELF [Super Junior's fanclub] I love you!"

The pair form the Super Junior subgroup, Super Junior D&E, and are known for their close friendship.

Super Junior's Siwon will also begin his military enlistment before the year's end. He will enlist on Nov. 19.

With numerous members, Super Junior has remained relevant in the Korean entertainment industry while members fulfill their mandatory duties. Kangin, Leeteuk, Heechul, and Yesung have all previously fulfilled their duties.

Super Junior will celebrate their tenth anniversary on Nov. 6.
