Komodo Dragon Attacks 83-Year-Old Indonesian Woman! Six-Foot Reptile Leaves Elderly Lady Requiring 35 Stitches After It Sinks Teeth Into Her Wrist

A Komodo dragon attacked an 83-year-old woman in Indonesia, leaving her in need of 35 stitches, after the giant reptile bit into her wrist.

Haisah (who like many Indonesians, goes by one name only) was seated outside of her house in a small village on Rinca island, making a broom out of a coconut tree, when a six-and-a-half foot long Komodo dragon lunged at her.

"All of a sudden, a Komodo bit my right hand," Haisah told AFP from her hospital bed on Thursday. "I have no idea which direction it came from.

"A knife fell from my right hand as the Komodo sunk its teeth into my wrist. There was nobody else around and I knew that I faced a fight for survival."

Somehow the elderly woman managed to fight off the Komodo dragon.

"I kicked the Komodo on one its front legs with all my strength, it was only one kick but it made the Komodo let go of my hand, then I screamed for help," she said.

Rinca Island, also known as Rincah and Rindja, is located near Komodo Island in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

The island is known to be inhabited by Komodo dragons along with other exotic animals like wild pigs and buffalo.

Komodo dragons can grow to be nearly 10 feet long.

Haisah said that limited movement has returned to her hand after it was initially paralyzed by the attack.

"I'm doing fine now," she said. "I hope my hand will return to normal so that I can make brooms again."
