Patrick Dempsey Racing To Forget 'Grey Anatomy’ Heartbreak? Actor Wants To Be Full-Time Racer?

Patrick Dempsey is making a name for himself away from the Hollywood limelight. The former "Grey's Anatomy" star seemingly has turned to racing to move on from his heartbreak from being killed off on the show.

As reported by Fox Sports, the actor's decade-long strive to make a mark as a racer finally paid off on Sunday when he and teammates Patrick Long and Marco Seefried won a spot after the Six of Fuji race.

After the win, the former Derek Shepherd actor admitted it was quite a struggle to concentrate at first on the speedway but he got a crack of it after a while.

"I just remembered to breathe and focus on one step at a time," the Derek Shepherd actor told the source above. "I kept visualizing the driver change and making sure I got my belts on properly and was comfortable getting out of the pits."

It was not clear if Patrick Dempsey was racing to forget the recent intrigue he has gotten into on his television career. He did get into a racing career at the same time that his popularity on "Grey's Anatomy" rose. In August, he admitted that being a racer was also important to him.

"It was at this moment that I realized I was now a race driver," Demsey wrote. "No longer an actor racing when I could, but a race driver. The future of the program depended upon me hitting this lap time."

Despite this though, the former Derek Shepherd actor won't neither be saying goodbye to Hollywood nor the race track anytime soon.

"I see no reason why I can't combine acting and racing," he told The Telegraph in April.

"I'm not retiring from acting," he also told People in May.

Amid Patrick Dempsey's racing, the former Derek Shepherd actor from "Grey's Anatomy" has been filming as well with Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth for a "Bridget Jones" movie.
