Rep For SISTAR's Label Blames Soyou's Somber Expression At Recent Appearances On Back Injury And Fatigue

A lower back injury Soyou of the chart-topping K-pop girl group SISTAR suffered at the Hallyu Dream Concert in Gyeongju, South Korea last month, compounded with exhaustion, are the reasons the vocalist seemed unhappy during a solo promotional blitz earlier this month, according to a representative from the group's record label Starship Entertainment.

"Soyou's condition hasn't been great since she twisted her back at [the Hallyu Dream Concert]," the rep told the Korean media outlet Newsen on Friday.

"She has been juggling her schedule while getting treatment, but she has also been suffering from fatigue recently, so her condition was worse."

Soyou (who was born Kang Ji Hyun) visibly broke into tears after she and Kwon Jeong Yeol of the group 10cm won the first place trophy in their appearance on the televised Korean music competition "M Countdown," on Oct. 1 and according to the Korean entertainment publication eNEWS, was standing "stiffly and expressionless" at a fan appearance at the Yeongdeungpo Times Square shopping center in Seoul on Friday.

She was also reportedly looking dour and disinterested at another fan event on Oct. 8 and an appearance on the TV show "Music Bank" the following day.

According to the rep, Soyou's management was taking all of this this as a sign that she needs a break.

"Soyou attended the fan signing today, in particular, because it was a promise to fans, but we′re sorry for not showing a good side," the rep said.

"We plan to minimize her future schedule."

After Soyou's tearful acceptance of the "M Countdown," trophy, surprising to fans who had seen her win the prize countless times both with SISTAR and for other duets, the label had also blamed Soyou's injury.

"Soyou recently injured her waist and she wasn't in a good condition," the Starship Entertainment rep said on Oct. 1, according to the Korean entertainment news website allkpop.

"Even though she was hurting a lot, she performed on stage and when they won first place, it seems she had an even bigger sense of gratitude."

Later that day, Soyou took to the microblogging website Twitter to express her humble gratitude for the fans that once more voted that her musical act was the best, posting a shot of her and Kwon holding their award.

"I didn't even think of getting first place so I wasn't even able to say thank you," she wrote.

"Even if I don't say it, you know I'm always thankful, right? Thank you! In this rainy day, keep your shoulders up and stay warm!"
