New Government Sponsored Project Gives Tourists The Chance To Learn K-Pop Dance Routines At SMTown

Tourists planning to visit Seoul, South Korea can add another stop to their itinerary: Attend a K-Pop dance class.

In a collaboration between SM Entertainment and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the idol agency's professional choreographers and dancers will begin running K-Pop dance classes exclusively for foreigners visiting the South Korean capital.

Tourists can join these K-Pop dance classes on Mondays and Tuesdays and will be held at SM Town, the headquarters of SM Entertainment, in southern Seoul, reports The Korea Herald.

Demand has been promising based on a pilot program that was launched since August, with over 850 applications received for the dance classes or almost double the 450 available slots, the city government said.

Seoul Mayor Park Won Soon, who signed the agreement with SM director Kim Young Min, explained that collaboration to offer K-Pop dance classes is just the tip of the iceberg as the city plans to develop a breadth of unique experiences for tourists.

"More experience-based programs will be available, such as K-pop vocal classes and Korean language classes with Korean soap operas," the mayor reportedly said. "The government will form a joint committee with private entities to maximize the Hallyu, through which we will be able to create more jobs and to boost the quality of the tourism industry."
