SM Entertainment Founder Lee Soo Man Praises The Role Of Celebrities, Robots In Future Society

Speaking at South Korea's top tech school, SM Entertainment's Lee Soo Man revealed that he believes Korea's future will be led by celebrities and robotics.

On Thursday, Lee Soo Man, the founder of SM Entertainment and one of the most prominent figures of modern K-pop, spoke at an event at KAIST's Graduate School of Culture Technology. During his speech, Lee predicted that the future will see a larger connection between cultural entertainers and robots.

Lee cited the Internet and Korea's high-tech culture as the foundations of his believe.

"We have been working on how music, video and social media can be used in the world of robots and how they can be connected with culture and celebrities," Lee said, reports the K-Pop Herald.

Lee claimed that he had been thinking about the connection between technology and entertainment throughout the last four years.

"More and more people want to be close to their stars and to have connections with them," explained Lee. "This market has been growing rapidly with the rise of the Chinese economy and the penetration of the Internet."

Lee predicted that agencies like SM Entertainment will pair entertainers up with technological advancements in the near future, meshing robots, software, apps, big data, and digital displays with pop culture.

The music mogul founded SM Entertainment in 1989. SM Entertainment is one of the most prominent Korean entertainment agencies today, and currently houses numerous top acts including TVXQ, BoA, Super Junior, Girls' Generation, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, Kangta, and more.
