Carroll University In Waukesha, Wis. On Lockdown - Reports of Man With Firearm On Campus

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The southeastern Wisconsin college, Carroll University, has been on lockdown Tuesday while police are investigating a report of a man with a firearm.  Waukesha police say they've found  the man in question, and arrested him at his apartment nearby the campus. A non-lethal air gun was confiscated from the man's residence.

Carroll University officals sent a text alert to students and staff after the public safety office received a report of a man with a gun.

University public relations director, Claire Beglinger, said two students called public safety officers to report a man with a "long gun" near the tennis courts on the northwest corner of the campus, and was walking toward Grand Ave. at about 10:20 a.m.

They described him as white and about 50 to 60 years old.

Carroll has about 3,500 students and is located about 30 miles west of Milwaukee.

Beglinger said police brought in tracking dogs to help with the investigation.

Students were asked via texts and emails to stay inside university buildings until further advised. Several local public schools were also locked down in the area as a precaution.

When public safety officers received the reports of a gunman on campus, the university sent text alerts and emails to students and staff.  The area is no longer on lockdown since the man's arrest.

Local police said that in today's climate, police have to take such reports seriously. Police are looking into whether the man did anything illegal, given the gun was non-lethal.

Everyone at the college Campus is thankful that the two students made the report.  Obviously everyone is on edge, just one day after the Boston Marathon Bombing. Even if the man didn't have an evil attack planned, all cautionary measures should be taken at this sensitive time.
