Liam Hemsworth's recently referred to his relationship with Miley Cyrus as an "important" part of his life. Now, rumors were swirling and fans were hoping of a reunion between the former pair as they seemingly still care for each other after calling of their engagement in 2013.

According to a report on Hollywood Life, there might still be hope for the Australian actor and the singer. At the moment though, they were "strictly friends." Nevertheless, Hemsworth statement purportedly made Cyrus happy.

"Hearing him defend her and say he still cares about her and loves her is huge, Miley could not be happier," an insider told the source above. "For a long time she was angry at him and she felt like he abandoned her so it's that much more meaningful that he's being so public about it, she feels vindicated." 

In an interview with Men's Fitness, the "Independence Day: Resurgence" actor pointed out that he has no regrets in loving the "Wrecking Ball" singer despite how different they are now from each other.

"You fall in love with who you fall in love with; you can never choose," he started.

"I mean, look-we were together five years, so I don't think those feelings will ever change," he continued.  "And that's good because that proves to me that it was real. It wasn't just a fling. It really was an important part of my life and always will be."

Liam Hemsworth even somehow came to Miley Cryus' defense in how she was currently perceived in the media.

"She's a free spirit," the "Independence Day: Resurgence" actor explained. "I think she'll always surprise people with what she does, but she's not a malicious person in any way. She's a young girl who wants to do what she wants to do."

But it's not only the "Independence Day: Resurgence" actor that has been reminiscing and defending each other lately. In an interview with Elle UK, the "Wrecking Ball" singer also talked about the mutual respect they have for each other despite rumors that they were not in good terms after the breakup.

"Me and Liam are still so close and we love each other, and they make it like there is negativity," Miley Cyrus said about Hemsworth.
