15,000 Signatures Gathered For 'Avatar: The Last Airbender,' 'Legend Of Korra' Online Petition

With the end of the "Avatar" universe, some fans believe it would still be alive as an episodic series if it weren't for Nickelodeon's involvement. An online petition reflects that sentiment.

Created by Josh Booth, this change.org petition has garnered nearly 15,000 signatures as of this writing, and encourages the "Avatar: The Last Airbender," "The Legend of Korra" universe to continue as an online original series.

"Netflix has a track record for creating its own incredible television, and has proven with shows such as 'Arrested Development' that it can re-ignite under-appreciated shows with a cult following," says the petition.

"'The Legend of Korra' saw success as an online-exclusive show after it was pulled from Nickelodeon's regular TV broadcasting, and with Netflix's branding the franchise could be taken to new heights."

Of course, despite Nickelodeon's previous involvement with the franchise, the "Avatar" universe is in fact continuing in a different medium.

As previously reported, the "Legend of Korra" comic will allegedly focus on characters Korra and Asami, nicknamed Korrasami by fans.

"'The Legend of Korra' will continue as comics written by Michael DiMartino, published by Dark Horse," wrote Konietzko on Tumblr back in July. "I've been working on the story with Mike, and I'll be consulting on the art (once we secure an artist/artists)."

Recently, Entertainment Weekly conducted an interview with Gene Yang to promote the latest Dark Horse release based on "Avatar: The Last Airbender," called "Smoke and Shadow." In it, EW contributor Andrew Towers confirmed that Yang will write more "Avatar" comic books after this series.

So far, no signs of the universe returning to the episodic format have been noted.
