Philadelphia 76ers Replacing Head Coach Brett Brown With Former Laker Coach Mike D'Antoni?

The Philadelphia 76ers have been rebuilding for the past 3 years and their strategy under general manager Sam Hinkie has been highly criticized. The team has been known for their historic losing steaks and the front office making everyone on the roster expendable.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the struggling 76ers made its first step to improving as they  have hired chairman of USA Basketball Jerry Colangelo as an adviser to the team's owner Josh Harris.

''He was reaching out for help,'' Colangelo said, ''and I responded.''

As per usatoday.com, Harris said the hiring was made to help their losing situation. "This season has not been easy for us and even more difficult than we anticipated," Harris said. "Our situation needed a review to make our situation better."

Experts believe this could be the team's first step in moving away from Hinkie's highly-criticized rebuilding plan. Based on a report by philly.com, Colangelo's hiring will eventually grab all of Hinkie's power and decision-making capabilities.

First order for business for Colangelo seems to be hiring a new head coach. As reported by cbssports.com, Colangelo is rumored to be interested in reuniting with former Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni. Reports indicate that an associate head coach position is being offered to the head coach.

Colangelo and D'Antoni were the known masterminds of the Phoenix Suns' revival into a Playoff contender under the leadership of 2-time Most Valuable Player Steve Nash.

This comes as a surprise to many as the 76ers have recently re-signed head coach Brett Brown to a 2-year extension despite having the worst record in the league.

As Yahoo! Sports reported, Brown has had to deal with an ever-changing roster which has led to a dismal 38-149 record. With the sudden change of power in the front office, experts believe that D'Antoni would eventually replace Brown as the team's head coach.
