Kendra Spears: From American Model to Princess

From runway to royalty, 24-year old model Kendra Spears is engaged to Prince Rahim Aga Khan, son of the Imam of the global community of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, who resides in France.

The press release reads: His Highness the Aga Khan today announced the engagement of his eldest son, Prince Rahim Aga Khan, to Ms. Kendra Spears of Seattle, Washington, the United States....The couple will be married in a Muslim ceremony. The date of the marriage has not been set yet."

After the press release was shared with the public, Spears tweeted: "Thank you for all your kind tweets! We're very excited!"

A native of Seattle, Spears won a Ford Models competition in 2008. Since then, she's been featured in publications like Vogue and Elle, as well as starring in campaigns for Calvin Klein and Emporio Armani. She has also walked the catwalks of big fashion houses like Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Prada.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan, 41, is a graduate of Brown University. According to the press release, he's involved in philanthropic ventures: "poverty reduction efforts, notably micro-credit activities" in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

It is not yet confirmed if Spears will take on the official title of princess. The supermodel's engagement comes in the wake of the union of Princess Kate Middleton, who grew up in the English countryside, and her hubby Prince William. Princess Kate took on the title with flawless grace, and it can be expected that Spears will too.

Rahim's family seems to be accustomed to marrying beautiful brides. Spears' fiancé's father was married to British model Sarah Croker-Poole and his grandfather was married to Rita Hayworth.
