Hackers Hired To Manipulate Online Kpop Charts? 'Is It Really That Hard To Ask For Some Fairness?'

Journalist Kim Yong Ho has made a name for himself in his struggles to uncover the truth in the Korean entertainment industry. Love him or hate him, his articles always tend to cause commotion and reveal the dark secrets record companies try so hard to keep hidden.

And it seems Kim Yong Ho is hot on the trail of his next big story, a scandal involving a label hiring hackers to manipulate rankings in the digital charts.

On May 2 the investigative reporter tweeted about his latest scoop.  "As if buybacks weren't enough, I recently received a report about an entertainment company spending upwards of $100,000 USD to hire hackers to manipulate the digital music chart. Which company do you think it is? (You bet that I'm going to go strong on this article)," he wrote as a teaser preview for his followers.

And this comment started rumors and caused speculation to fly around the internet community. It seems everyone has their opinion as to what record company could be involved with such a scandal.

"Wow, which company could it be? It's going to be a mess if people ever find out who it is," noted one netizen in response to the tweet. Another posted, "To give everyone who doesn't know a hint, think of that one composer famous for manipulating the digital charts... His songs are always at the tip of the charts when they shouldn't be."

A while later, Kim Yong Ho tweeted another hint about his juicy news saying, "Of course, the companies are a problem but Mnet and Loen are also just as guilty for not only dominating the distribution market but even producing their own songs and spamming them up the charts."

The second comment caused another surge of frenzy as netizens continue to wonder what company is behind the chart-rigging.

"Then is he hinting that their distributer is Loen? I have a feeling it's a girl group, a specific one..." said another netizen.

It seems that rumors had been spreading around the internet for some time before Kim Yong Ho got a hold of the story, but now a lot of people are questioning whether or not he has solid proof.

"This was all over Hanteo but no one ever had any evidence," said one person and others merely do not give the journalist any credit whatsoever.

"I never found this guy to be professional. He's one of the reasons YG severed ties with KBS because he kept digging on Daesung's incident without any proof. No matter what he says, if he's lying or not, I don't think I can respect a journalist like him," pointed out another internet user.

Meanwhile, as Kim Yong Ho gathers evidence and prepares his potentially earth-shaking article, fans and netizens will just have to wait in speculation and hope their favorite artists are not thrown under the bus with this recent scandal.
