George R.R. Martin’s ‘Winds Of Winter’ Spoilers Revealed By Author On ‘GoT’ Season 5 Commentary?

George R.R. Martin may have revealed "Winds of Winter" spoilers in the "Game of Thrones" season 5 Blu-ray commentary.

IBT reported that the "Song of Ice and Fire" author has spoiled an important character's brutal death. Moreover, Martin made the announcement in the commentary of the Blu-ray edition of "Game of Thrones" season 5.

"Although it has yet to feature in 'A Song of Ice and Fire,' George R.R. Martin has confirmed that it was always his intention for Stannis and Melisandre to sacrifice Shireen to the God of Light," Den of Geek wrote.

Shireen Baratheon, portrayed by Kerry Ingram, was burned alive in "Game of Thrones" season 5. Stannis had hoped that the sacrifice would help him win against the Boltons.

However, the sacrifice did not succeed. "Instead, the tiered and worn army of Stannis was thoroughly routed by the Boltons and Stannis himself lost his life," IBT wrote.

Shireen and Stannis are still alive in Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" book series. With the author's "Winds of Winter" spoilers, though, the former may lose her life in the series. It is unclear whether Stannis will die as well.

It was previously reported that the upcoming "Winds of Winter" release date may reveal key details about Jon Snow's mother. The "Song of Ice and Fire" author has also teased the fact that Jon Snow will recover from the brutal attack on him by the Night's Watch.

"I have decided to do it. Will you know it? I don't know," Martin said to IGN. "It is fairly obvious because it is something that involves a couple of characters, one of which is dead on the show, and not dead in the books."

"So the show can't do it, unfortunately, because they have killed someone I have not killed."

Showrunner David Benioff has also revealed that there will be no "Winds of Winter" spoilers in "Game of Thrones" season 6.
