Those who have been waiting for the airing of "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 will have to console themselves with the fact that their idols Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo were triumphant in recent awards shows in Korea. This was very evident with the just wrapped up APAN Star Awards.

As expected, "Descendants of the Sun" dominated in major categories in the prestigious awards show, Soompi reported. Leads stars Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo won the Best Couple Award.  

Also, Joong Ki took home the trophy for the Grand Excellence (Daesang) Award. "Descendants of the Sun" also took home the award for Best Drama while Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won prevailed over their competitors in the acting races.

The triumph of the Korean drama comes as the "Descendants of the Sun" continues in other parts of Asia. It remarkably performed well in China, where one episode reached 2.3 billion views, according to Asia One.

This sets the stage for "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 but it has been reported that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are still not sure whether they will come back because of scheduling conflicts.

KBS2 has not announced an official release date for "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 or whether Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo will be involved. KPop Starz will be posting more updates on Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo in the coming weeks.
