Emily Blunt To Play Baker’s Wife In Disney’s ‘Into The Woods’ Alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Pine, Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp [VIDEO]

Emily Blunt is in final talks to join the cast of Disney's Into the Woods. Rob Marshall will direct Disney's newest musical.

Sources close to the Into The Woods production confirmed Blunt's participation to The Hollywood Reporter.

Along with Emily Blunt, Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal are reportedly joining the Into the Woods cast. The film has already confirmed Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep.

Into the Woods is based on a Broadway musical of the same name by Stephen Sondheim. David Krane arranged the film, which will include Sondheim's original music, according to Variety.

The plot of Into the Woods surrounds a childless baker and his wife who are plagued by a family curse. The family goes 'into the woods' to confront the witch who cursed them. On their journey, the baker and his wife encounter the characters of favorite fairy tales, like Rapunzel, Cinderella (and their respective princes), Little Red Riding Hood, and more.

Emily Blunt will allegedly play the lead female role: the baker's wife.

The Baker's Wife was placed under a curse of barrenness by the witch, her neighbor. The spell gets lifted, but in the musical, that's not the 'happily ever after' ending - it's just the beginning.

Depp will play the 'Big Bad Wolf' and Streep will play the 'Witch.'

Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine haven't been confirmed for the film yet, but they are reportedly near concluding the deal. Gyllenhaal and Pine would play Cinderella's and Rapunzel's princes.

Since the film is a musical, speculation has surrounded the actors' abilities to sing. Blunt, although she isn't known for her singing, performed an entire song on UK TV drama Gideon's Daughter. Check out the clip of Blunt singing below.

It is unclear when the production would begin filming, but with such big names involved with the film, more news is sure to break soon.

The Into the Woods film and musical script was written by James Lapine. John DeLuca will produce the film.

Emily Blunt recently finished filming Doug Liman's sci-fi action film All You Need is Kill with co-star Tom Cruise. Warner Bros. will release All You Need Is Kill next year.

Chris Pine can be seen in theaters as young Captain Kirk in Star Trek Into Darkness alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto. Pine will also play Jack Ryan in the film Jack Ryan, based on the character by Tom Clancy.
