I-880 Shutdown For Hours Because Of Shooting: Two Warriors Fans Killed After Playoff

The I-880 was shutdown for hours after two Golden State Warriors fans were killed in a shooting after the playoffs game Thursday night. Investigators will now review video surveillance tapes from outside the Oracle Arena and along Interstate 880 for leads into the fatal freeway shooting. The two Warriors fans were killed on their way home from the playoffs game, authorities said Friday according to a report by San Jose Mercury News.

One of the men was ejected from a white Porsche Panamera that was sprayed by gunfire and was also hit by a van, authorities said.

The Alameda County Coroner’s Office identified the driver of as 30-year-old Christopher Beardon, of Pittsburgh, and the passenger as Terrance Marks, 28, of Richmond as the Warriors fans who were fatally shot. The shooting occurred at around 10:35 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-880 near Jackson Street.

Police said that someone in another vehicle opened fire on the Porsche and hit the luxury vehicle multiple times, which made it crash into the center divider of the freeway, based on reports.

The impact caused Marks to be ejected from the car, and he was also hit by a van, whose driver kept going.

Both men were pronounced dead on the scene by EMT.

It is believed that Marks and Beardon were killed by gunfire, but an autopsy will confirm if the injuries sustained by the ejected man may have also contributed to his death, according to police. Both deaths are being classified as homicides by the authorities.

The two men were wearing Golden State Warriors garb and had tickets for Thursday nights playoffs game, which ended a short time before the shooting. The Warriors lose over San Antonio Spurs at the playoffs, 94-82.

According to police, dozens of vehicles passed by the scene before the California Highway Patrol and shut down the northbound lanes. Investigators would like to talk to anyone who drove by the scene before the freeway was closed.

The CHP is working with the police on the investigation of the shooting that led to the I-880 shutdown.

The northbound lanes of I-880 were reopened at 2:34 a.m. Prior to that, traffic was being diverted from I-880 at Fifth Avenue.
