Girl Group Oh My Girl Received Massive Backlash For Allegedly Exposing Lolita Concept

Idol group Oh My Girl has been criticized online for allegedly basing their stage outfit concepts on Lolita imagery. The Lolita image that the girls brought up on stage has triggered people on the internet to question their motive on selecting such sensitive concept.

According to Korea Boo, people on the internet have been debating on whether Oh My Girl's stage outfit reflected Lolita. According to photos of Oh My Girl's performance that have been spreading all over the internet, the girl group frequently wore very short high-waist school skirts and most often they performed in a school uniform with a cropped top.  Some people agreed that Oh My Girl might have adopted the Lolita concept, while the others only stated that Oh My Girl's cropped top outfit could lead to a serious concern, although it cannot be associated with Lolita.

The implementation of Lolita concept in a stage performance has always led to controversy. The Lolita concept is a highly controversial style since it portrays under-aged girls that often lead to racy contents. Oh My Girl is not the first public figure that was accused of exploiting Lolita imagery. Sulli, Goo Hara, and idol group Red Velvet had also received strong criticism regarding their styles that allegedly promote Lolita concept. However, there are a lot of people that disagree Lolita is a sexual concept since it's supposed to promote cute dolly look.

Oh My Girl will be making their comeback in April. However, one of the member, JinE, who previously took a break after being diagnosed with anorexia, wouldn't join the rest of the group to promote their next music. Recently, the girls of Oh My Girl involved in a small explosion incident while filming a new music video in Namyangju, Soompi reported. Fortunately, the fire was put out quickly so Oh My Girl was able to resume shooting their music video.
