Vodka Bottle Hits Toots And Maytals Singer During Dominion Riverrick Concert In Richmond, Virginia; 70 Year Old Had 10 Stitches In Head[ACTUAL VIDEO]

A vodka bottle hits Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, singer for reggae group Toots & the Maytals, while performing on stage in Richmond, Virginia.

Toots and the Maytals were happily singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads," at a concert at the Dominion Riverrock in Richmond Saturday when the lead singer was hit by a vodka bottle thrown on stage by one of the attendees.  Frederick Hibbert, 70, left the stage in the middle of his performance when the bottle hits him right in the head during his rendition.

Hibbert's son, who is in fact a bass player in the same band, reported afterwards that the singer received eight to 10 stitches on his head at the hospital.

"Blood was flowing heavily from his head," a concert worker said about Hibbert's injury.

"He was in good spirits and was very appreciative of Richmond," the festival manager said of driving Hibbert to the hospital. "He said he wanted to come back, and he understood this was just one bad apple, basically."

The bottle was thrown by a 19 year-old by the name of William C. Lewis.  Police have charged the underage delinquent with aggravated assault and public intoxication.

Jack Berry, executive director of the company that produced the three-day music festival, said that the company would look into whether security producers could be improved.

Berry claims the vodka bottle that struck the singer is thought to have been stolen from the mixed beverage sales area, and not brought in from outside the venue.

He supports the event adding, "Dominion Riverrock is a wonderful event for our community, but unfortunately this edition has been marred by the actions of one individual...This was one individual who committed a horrible act."

Toots and the Maytals, a Jamaican reggae group, have some of the best vocals in their genre. Front man Hibbert's soulful style is often compared to Otis Redding. He grew up singing gospel music in a church choir and started The Maytals in the early 60's.

We are glad that the reggae great has recovered from the scary event and won't let the actions of one negligent boy stand in the way of making more sweet music.
