Iron Man 3 Soars High With $1 Billion Box Office Earnings Worldwide; Fake Robert Downey Jr. In The Movie

Iron Man 3 already hit their $1 billion earnings from the worldwide mega blockbuster success of the movie - making it the most successful Iron Man movie yet.

This box office accolade is a huge victory for Disney for betting on comic book superheroes after purchasing Marvel Studios in 2009 for $4 billion. Dave Hollis, Head of Distribution for Disney talked about the recent growth of international market. "To an extent, It's a sign of the times," he told in  his interview with the Wrap. He continued, "But we had a great movie that was embraced all around the world as the summer's first blockbuster. We had that incredible May Day, the word of mouth was terrific and we're still seeing the effects of that."

Meanwhile, have you watched Iron Man 3 yet? Have you noticed the fake Robert Downey Jr. in the film? As a recall, Robert Downey Jr. reportedly suffered an ankle injury, thus stalling the timetable production of the movie for six weeks while waiting for the actor's recovery. The injury also compromised the initial date for the release which is May 3. But without Tony Spark, the production studio was put in a tough spot. But the production team for Iron Man 3 managed to find an alternative which is to generate a fake Robert Downey Jr.

How did they do it?

"We were able to reconstruct RDJ as Tony Stark on set, with the help of [a] body double and the facial captures we'd collected afterwards," explains the VFX supervisor of Iron Man 3, Chris Townsend. Weta Digital helped in inserting RDJ into vital sequenced of the film.

The whole beach scene at the end of the Iron Man 3 film was entirely shot using a body double. After the shooting, Weta Digital and the production team edited the raw footage to digitally merge Tony Stark's face onto the body. The process used for this scene is actually similar to one used with Chris Evans "skinny body" in Captain America.
