EXO, which had been split into two subunits, EXO-K and EXO-M, for their debut song “MAMA,” have come together as one for their latest album, “XOXO.” But for convenience’s sake, we will introduce each member according to their subunit!
EXO-K (The Korean Subunit)
Born on May 22, 1991, Suho is the leader of EXO-K and is also known as the “Mom” of the group. He is considered the “Guardian of EXO” and studied acting at Korea National University of Arts. In the song “Wolf,” Suho sings the memorable line of “Can’t understand the situation before her eyes.” Suho loves his fellow EXO members, and he recently read a touching letter to them on Super Junior’s “Kiss the Radio.”
Kai, who was born on January 14, 1994, was the first EXO member to be revealed by SM Entertainment. When his first teaser was released, fans were charmed by his amazing dance skills. Kai is skilled in ballet, jazz, hip hop, popping, and locking, and is known for his similarity to SHINee’s Taemin. In “Wolf,” Kai dons cool dreadlocks and is the one who does the ballet-like spin of the dance at the beginning. Check out the first teaser video that was released about Kai!
Baekhyun, born on May 6, 1992, is regarded as the main vocalist of EXO-K. Also nicknamed as “Bacon” by fans, Baekhyun is the charming vocalist who has been hitting the long, high notes in EXO’s songs. Since Baekhyun almost always has eyeliner on, he is also known as the member who is “in charge of eyeliner.” There have also been many videos circulating on the internet showing Baekhyun’s cute and dorky side before debut.
D.O., who is often referred to as “Kyung Soo” by fans, was born on January 12, 1993. He is one of the main vocalists of EXO, and his charming voice has been compared to his role model, composer Yoo Young Jin. He is also the one who sings the famous opening line in EXO-K’s version of “MAMA.” See below for his beautiful cover of “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy along with fellow EXO member Chanyeol. D.O.’s nearly perfect English pronunciation was praised by fans.
Chanyeol, who was born on November 27, 1992, is one of the main rappers of EXO. Not only can he rap, he also has a great singing voice and can play several instruments, including guitar, drum, bass, and djembe. He is known for his low and thick talking voice, and he is also one of the brightest members of EXO.
Sehun, who is the maknae (youngest member) of EXO, was born on April 12, 1994. He is very talented in dancing, and he also has a habit of sticking his tongue out and licking his lips. When pronouncing s-sounds, he has a cute lisp as well. Check out a charming dance teaser video of Sehun!
EXO-M (The Chinese Subunit)
Kris, who was raised in Vancouver, Canada, is the leader of EXO-M. Born on November 6, 1990, he is a Chinese-Canadian and is fluent in four languages, including English, Korean, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Kris was born in Guangzhou and is the tallest member of the group, standing at 187cm tall. He enjoys playing basketball and reading inspiring books.
Luhan, who is one of the four Chinese members in EXO-M, is talented in both singing and dancing. He was born on April 20, 1990 and is known for his cute and adorable looks. He is also the most popular member of EXO-M. Luhan attended Yonsei University to study Korean as an exchange student, and he sometimes gets teary-eyed when talking about his parents who are in Beijing.
Xiumin, who is a Korean member in the Chinese subunit, is also known as “baozi” (little bun) among fans because he was able to make very cute faces that looked like a dumpling or bun. His chubby face and cute grin are his signature trademarks, and he also knows taekwondo and kendo. Xiumin was born on March 26, 1990.
Chen, who is the other Korean member in EXO-M, was born on September 21, 1992, and is the main vocalist for the group. His soothing yet powerful voice is his trademark, and he is able to sing even very high notes. Chen likes the R&B music genre and can also play the piano. Check out Chen’s wonderful cover of “The Last Time” with the other subunit’s main vocalist, D.O.
Lay, who is also known as “Yixing” (his Chinese name) among fans, was born on October 7, 1991. He is one of the main dancers of the group and was born in Changsha, China. Lay enjoys cooking on his free time. In addition to being very talented in dancing, Lay also knows how to play the guitar and piano.
Also known as the “romantic Kung-fu panda,” Tao was born on May 2, 1993 in Qingdao, China. He is most known for his martial arts skills and talent in dancing. In “Wolf,” he is the member in charge of jumping high in the air as one of the dance moves. Tao is the member with the most aegyo, or cute acts, and he is also skilled in rapping.
