'Sailor Moon' Reboot: A 2013 Musical Revival To Coincide With Cosmetic Product Launch

While fans are eagerly waiting for the "Sailor Moon" reboot to hopefully arrive this fall, they can tide themselves over with a 2013 revival of the "Sailor Moon" stage musical after an eight-year absence!

According to AnimeNewsNetwork, the "Sailor Moon" manga's Kodansha editor Fumio Osano announced the news Sunday of the musical recounting the anime's first arc: Sailor Scouts versus the Dark Kingdom.

Naoko Takeuchi, the original manga's creator, reportedly personally auditioned actresses for the new cast, ultimately choosing 17-year-old Satomi Ōkubo for the titular role.

The musical will be produced, directed, and written by Takuya Hiramitsu, and will run from September 13 to 23 at Shibuya's AiiA Theater Tokyo. Hiramitsu is a popular sound director for anime series like "Gunslinger Girl" and "Yu-Gi-Oh!"

Previously, "Sailor Moon" inspired 27 musical runs and over 800 performances from 1993 to 2005.

With a revival of sorts confirmed for this fall, a Sailor Moon-inspired cosmetic line by Bandai's Creer Beaute will debut in October as well.

The cosmetic items are reportedly inspired by the iconic transformation items from the series, which will shape the designs for the Shining Moon Powder cases.

While Bandai has sold toy compacts inspired by "Sailor Moon," this is the first line for adults.

With such fervent activities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the historic Japanese franchise, hopefully a true anime reboot will follow.
