June 6 was Memorial Day in South Korea where people across the peninsula celebrate the service of the nation's fallen soldiers. It is a time to thank the military for their hard work and dedication and to show patriotism.

K-Pop idols and Korean celebrities are among the many to make special announcements and events around South Korea.

Two popular singers celebrated birthdays on June 6, B2ST's Son Dongwoon and the lovely HyunA of 4Minute.

Dongwoon tweeted a message about his birthday plans and the holiday saying, "I was born on such a meaningful day so I was wondering what to do and decided to go hiking at Mt. Geomdan and visit the Memorial Monument at the bottom."

The tweet continued, "I thank my parents and I that everyone who wished me a happy birthday. I hope everyone thinks about those who protected out country and re-think about the meaning of this day once again."

He also posted a photo of himself with his hiking partners and the memorial they visited.

Kwon Sohyun tweeted a picture of herself with a cute bow celebrating Memorial Day and her group mate HyunA's birthday. "Today is Memorial Day and HyunA unni's birthday. Please think of the day's significance as well as wish HyunA a happy birthday!" she wrote.

Dasom of SISTAR also called on her fans to remember the meaning of the special day by tweeting, "Let's not forget those who sacrificed themselves for the country! Don't forget to raise the flags either!"

Her message resonates with many Koreans, famous or otherwise who feel a strong patriotism for their country and are proud to celebrate it.

Seohyun of Girls' Generation put a message up on the group's official page that read, "Everyone! Today is Memorial Day! Let us applaud the deceased patriots and deeply engrave their noble minds of safeguarding our country throughout the day!"

2PM member Chansung also had a thoughtful message, saying, "I've been working and working since yesterday and things just ended. After eating and paying attention, I realized that today is Memorial Day. A day that commemorates the men and women who died while in military service of in the independence movement and to cherish their loyalty," on Twitter.

His tweet continued, "Thank you. I will commemorate the sacrifice of the many. I should study Korean history... I hope the app that I use to study Korean history won't change!"
