Steve Perry, the former lead singer of super group, Journey, revealed that he's recovering from May surgery to have a cancerous growth removed from his face, five months after he lost his girlfriend to cancer, as well, according to UPI.

The mole was removed three weeks ago, and test results found it came back positive for melanoma. Perry had to undergo two procedures to rid his skin of all of the cancer cells.

Perry wrote that doctors told him they think they removed all the cancer cells. No further treatment will be necessary.

The 64-year-old is left with just a scar on his cheek, but the cancer was especially scary, as his girlfriend of two years died of bone, breast and lung cancer in December

In a blog post, Perry wrote on his official website, "Three weeks ago, a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back Melanoma skin cancer. I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required."

Later, the 64-year-old rocker related a story of psychologist Kellie Nash, a woman with whom he was involved from 2011 until her death in December 2012 from bone, breast and lung cancer. Nash had already undergone a double mastectomy before they met, and been told the cancer had returned, UPI reported.

Perry wrote that he had been taken by Nash's smile after seeing her in a TV documentary and asked her out through a mutual friend. He says he immediately knew during their initial dinner that, "I finally found her - we both knew we were meant to be together."

Nash's cancer continued to progress and eventually spread to her brain. The couple moved in New York City for a new treatment that "kept her alive with a quality of life. We had the most magical summer of our lives together," he wrote. 

The cancer returned en mass that fall, and Nash died Dec. 14.

"She was so strong, so courageous and we really loved each other so very much," Perry wrote. "I've been trying to grieve and not run from this loss, so for the last five months that's what I've been doing."

Perry was a member of Journey during the band's most successful run, and provided vocals on nine albums, which included megahits "Open Arms," "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Separate Ways."
