UK Sock Company Threatens To Sue Psy In Satirical Blog Post

Satire is sometimes difficult to distinguish - especially when the news seems rather plausible. Just think: how many times has the Chinese media mistaken an Onion article for fact?

The latest internet misunderstanding comes from a UK sock company for gentlemen, Socked. The theme of their site (and service) is to provide socks to men in the United Kingdom who wish to uphold the true meaning of being a gentleman.

In a sort of "cheese of the month" style business operation, Socked sends classic black socks to its subscribers. The blog portion of their website also features articles on gentlemanly matters of interest.

On June 11, the site posted a "press release" pointing out their displeasure with Psy's "Gentleman" music video calling Psy out for destroying "the good reputation of the male race."

The satirical press release quotes Socked spokesman Mark Hall as saying, "We're sickened by this so-called contribution to the recorded arts."

Hall continues, "In the video, Mr Psy's antics are nothing short of disgraceful, and as one of 30 million gentlemen in the United Kingdom, it falls to me to say 'enough is enough'."

He also says that Socked is considering a class-action lawsuit against Psy for his "caddish behaviour" on behalf of gentlemen everywhere.

"None of these actions are those of a self-proclaimed 'gentleman'", said Socked.co.uk 's Hall, "And because of this we're pushing for an apology on behalf of polite, charming men everywhere for whom this kind of behaviour is anathema."

"It's not about money," said Mark Hall, "We just want this popular recording star to admit that he got it horribly wrong, apologise to right-thinking gents the world over, and release a follow up single called 'I'm really, really sorry for being a cad and a bounder'."

The blog post goes on to add that if they do not follow through with the legal action, Hall has no choice but to challenge Psy to a duel, a true gentleman's means of solving a disagreement.

Hall also notes that due to the Korean pop star's military training, a dance-battle would be more appropriate.

"Ballroom, the dance of Gentlemen, or it's no dice. There'll be no prancing about Gangnam Style like a horse in matters of honour," said Hall. "Also, for logistical reasons, it has to be within twenty miles of Leeds City Centre."

A clever marketing response to the "Gangnam Style" singer's latest hit single, Socked's fake press release is gaining attention (and more than a few laughs) across the internet.
