Yoo Seung Ho Rises Through The Ranks In South Korean Army: 'I Miss You' Actor Promoted To Assistant Instructor Of Recruitment Training

Yoo Seung Ho is a rising star in the South Korean Army.

The South Korea's 27th Division Recruitment Training Department reported Thursday that the 19-year-old actor was promoted to the rank of assistant instructor.

Yoo's management company confirmed the actor's rise in rank to the publication CJ E&M enewsWorld.

"They say he′s becoming the ideal soldier, but actually he′s just doing whatever everyone else does," the actor's rep said. "He will continue to do whatever is asked of him during his service."

A source close to the actor, is happy that Yoo is doing so well.

"I′m thankful he′s been adjusting well to his life in the army. I hope he returns as his healthy self after serving his duties," the source said.

Despite several offers for film roles, Yoo, who won Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation's Best Newcomer Award in 2009, joined the army back in January.

The actor reportedly made the decision to enlist shortly following the conclusion of his television series "I Miss You" on January 17.

"Yoo Seung Ho has requested to be enlisted as quickly as possible after his drama was over," a source close to Yoo Seung Ho told the website Soompi shortly following the actor's announcement.

"He wanted to enter quietly and so rejected all CF offers that came in after the drama."

All eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 must enroll for between 21 and 24 months of army service in South Korea (the length of mandatory enrollment changes depending on which branch of the military that they serve in) in a practice known as conscription.

According to the source, the actor also rejected filming any promotional video clips before he left.

"Yoo Seung Ho thought it wasn't right to have his face air on TV while he was serving in the army," the friend of the actor said.

"But he feels apologetic toward the advertising companies."

"He is planning on enlisting as quietly as possible," the source added.

"He will give his last greetings to his parents at home and will go to the enlistment location with only his manager."

Another friend of Yoo's confirmed that the actor insisted on enlisting for his military service without any fanfare.

"Yoo Seung Ho decided that it wasn't necessary to complicate his enlistment when all the other civilians do it normally," he said.

"We understand Yoo Seung Ho's fans may want to see him enlist but we wanted to keep in consideration of the other soldiers who are to enlist on the same day."

The source added that the actor's decision not to do any interviews following the conclusion of "I Miss You" grew out of modesty about his acting.

"Actors must appear before their fans with good acting," the friend said.

"However, Seung Ho thinks his acting could improve so he didn't want to put himself out there with the press just yet."

Yoo will conclude his military enlistment in December of 2014.
