Lee Hyori Returns From Week-Long Break From 'Monochrome' Promotion: Singer Discusses Conquering Her Fears And Writing Her Own Songs

She's baaack!

After a one-week hiatus from promotional appearances for her new album "Monochrome," Lee Hyori reemerged for a radio interview on Monday, opening up about her greatest fears and what it was like writing her own songs for the first time.

"This album is special because it represents the 'before' and 'after' Hyori. Since I set the bar pretty high for myself, I never dared to consider writing my own songs for release," Lee explained.

"But someone once told me that even songs written by an amateur like myself could be part of my record, so I mustered the courage to use my original song, 'Miss Korea' as the title track for my latest album."

Lee is apparently not as brave when it comes to other things, like the paranormal.

When host Jang Ki Ha asked her greatest fear, she replied "ghosts."

And in a response that probably didn't surprise fans familiar with down-to-earth personality in interviews, Lee said she was most concerned about remaining true to herself.

"I don't want to lose sight of who I am by being caught up with following everyone else," she said.

"I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to recognize my true self."

Lee's chart topping singles "Miss Korea" and "Bad Girls" at number 46 and 17 respectively on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 this week, are both in their second month on the charts, fueled by the their visually arresting music videos.

Additionally, "Monochrome" has earned Lee critical praise from Seoul to New York City, with this publication being no exception.

The queen of the "Bad Girls" announced suddenly on June 10 that she was taking some time off from promoting her fifth album.

"The reason why I'm resting for a while? Because I want to rest," Lee tweeted. "There's no other reason. Why is everyone asking about the reason?"

The singer's label B2M Entertainment told CJ E&M enewsWorld on Monday that the Lee had originally only planned to do two weeks of promotion for her new record, which appears to keep getting extended.

This week, Lee released her newest video "Going Crazy," featuring several of the stars of "Korea's Next Top Model 4."

The video, which was directed by Cha Eun Taek, features the singer dressed as a man, complete with a fake pencil-thin mustache.
