"Amazing Spider-Man 2" may have a new Mary Jane - Canadian actress Sarah Gadon has just been confirmed by ET Canada to be joining the cast of the "Spider-Man" franchise.

"Spider-Man 2" rumors have ben running rampant since news broke earlier this week that Shailene Woodley's footage in the Marvel flick would be scrapped. Multiple media outlets speculated that since Woodley would be busy with other projects in the future, the role of Mary Jane would be recast for parts three and four.

The film's director, Marc Webb, announced that he cut Mary Jane's parts to focus on the relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy in the sequel.

"I made a creative decision to streamline the story and focus on Peter and Gwen and their relationship. Shailene is an incredibly talented actress, and while we only shot a few scenes with Mary Jane, we all love working with her," said Webb.

Although Sarah Gadon hasn't been officially confirmed as Mary Jane, her role in the franchise was reported as a sure thing in a tweet from ET Canada.

Gadon has starred in "A Dangerous Method" and "Cosmopolis," both by David Cronenberg.

She has also starred in "Antiviral" by Brandon Cronenberg, in addition to appearing on Canadian television programs "The Border," "Being Erica," and "Happy Town."

But, it is possible that Gadon could be playing a different character, and not the love interest of Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield). MTV's Splash Page suggested that Gadon could be playing Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, which is rumored to belong to Felicity Jones.

The sequel is full of potential villains; Dane DeHaan and Chris Cooper will play Harry and Norman Osborn, Jamie Foxx will play Electro, and Paul Giamatti will play The Rhino.

"Amazing Spider-Man 2" will hit theaters on May 2, 2014. Andrew Garfield will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man once again, and Emma Stone will reprise her role of Gwen Stacy in the flick.

"Amazing Spider-Man 3" will be released on June 10, 2016, and "Amazing Spider-Man 4" on May 4, 2018.
