Rapper Kim Joon Of T-Max Completes Military Duty, Signs With New Management

It's shaping up to be a pretty good week for rapper Kim Joon.

The former member of T-Max completed his two years of compulsory military service on Friday. He can now jump right back into the spotlight with the help of his new talent agency, Chang Company.

"After his release [from the army], Kim Joon will be active as a Chang Company artist," a representative for talent agency told CJ E&M enewsWorld.

All eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 must enroll for between 21 and 24 months of army service in South Korea (the length of mandatory enrollment changes by several months depending on which branch of the military that they serve in) in a practice known as conscription.

Kim, who rose to fame as an actor in the Korean Broadcasting System program "Boys Over Flowers," enrolled in the army at age 27.

The Chang Entertainment representative said the Kim possesses a variety of talents that made him an appealing actor for the company to sign.

"Kim Joon boasts manly and exotic features, along with an image that seems capable of expressing both good and evil, as well as a good voice," the rep said.

"He has strengths that help him be a good actor, and he plans to continue concentrating on acting."

And even before Kim was honorably discharged from the military, the rapper-turned-actor was already reportedly offered numerous roles.

"Offers are already pouring in not only from Korea, but also other countries such as Japan and China, so we don′t plan on holding back in our support for his career," the rep said.

"We expect he will show a different side of himself."

Back in 2011, the publication Joy News reviewed one of Kim's last roles before his enlistment, as the wacky computer expert Shin Dong Jin in the police drama "Serious Crime Squad."

The publication called Kim an actor most likely better suited for comedy.

"I do think Kim Joon has a long way to go in terms of acting skill," the Joy News reviewer wrote.

"He really benefited in 'Boys Before Flowers' by being allowed to act as eye candy without having much to do dramatically--but I can't deny he's got personal charm. I can see him playing a comic, quirky character much better than one that's dependent upon a solid dramatic performance."
