Beyond The Pokemon Game Pokedex: The Best Fan Creations And Real Life Pokemon

For almost as long as the Pokemon games have existed, the trend of fans creating their own designs have tagged along with each new generation of Pokedex additions.

With Pokemon X and Pokemon Y set to release October 12, sometimes fan creations become confused for leaked images of new Pokemon.

Here's a rundown of some of the best fan-made Pokemon.

By far the most comprehensive has to be Reddit user WaterTrainer, who created an entire generation of pocket monsters in time to celebrate the upcoming sixth generation Pokedex. Each design is pixelated, and nearly every combination of types is included.

"With all of the great designs fans have made I really wish Nintendo would do a generation where they had a Pokemon design contest and chose the top 50 or something," writes a Reddit user.

"Nintendo would also be totally free to tweak the designs as they pleased of course. It would take some pressure off of them as well as create a greater connection with the players."

But that's not all. Some of the best fan-made Pokemon exist on DeviantArt, including this, and this. In addition, fans never seem to tire of making supposed evolutions of pre-existing Pokemon.

With such fervent creativity, Nintendo should really take advantage and perhaps make good use of some of them.

But Pokemon does not only exist in our imagination.

The Huffington Post recently wrote about a curious bug called the spicebush swallowtail larvae which look like Caterpie come to life!

It's no surprise that Pokemon draw most of its inspiration from real-life counterparts. Below is a video showing just how crazy the world might be if Pokemon really existed.

What do you think? Should Nintendo include fan creations as some sort of contest? Can it stand up to the designs of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y?
