South Korean actor Hyun Bin claims he had planned not to cry last December when he first saw the thousands of fans gathered to greet him on the day he was honorably discharged following his 21 months of military service in the Marine Corps.

It just happened.

"My plan failed," Hyun told the publication @star1 on Saturday.

"I couldn't control my emotions. I thought to myself that even if a situation like that [happened]; I was determined not to let myself cry. But I unknowingly shed tears."

Hyun said it didn't take long after he saw the giant crowd of adoring fans standing in the cold, to lose his composure.

"Even when I was giving my first bow, while bowing my head and looking at the floor, I was already on the verge of tears," he said.

"But I held it in. But maybe because my heart was so glad to return to my original place, I unknowingly shed tears. Honestly, I had a deep longing to act again. I think my heart realized it before my head.

All eligible males between the ages of 18 and 35 must enroll for roughly two years of army service in South Korea (the length of mandatory enrollment changes by several months depending on which branch of the military that they serve in) in a practice known as conscription.

"Thank you to all the media and fans who have made it here despite the snow and difficult conditions," Hyun told the thousands of fans assembled on that cold December day, according to the website allkpop.

"Having received so much encouragement and interest from everyone before enlisting, I started my life as a soldier with a happy heart, and due to the consistent support and energy that you have all sent me even after enlisting, I think I am able to now stand here alright and healthy."

The star of the 2010 television show "Secret Garden" confessed to deeply missing the profession that made him famous while he was in the service.

"I wanted to act so badly," Hyun told the crowd.

"Since I couldn't act during my vacations, I'd go to places where [young people] were acting and would watch them and think about it."

"But now, the time has come for me to be able to act again, and as much as everyone has waited for me, I want to work hard in preparing to show you the acting I've wanted to do," he added.

"I have stored all the energy that I've received as a soldier, so I will return energy back to everyone."

Hyun's acting comeback will be in the period film "The King's Wrath," according to the Korea Joong Ang Daily.
