Kim Yi Rim Discusses Going Solo On The Lim Kim Album 'A Voice': 'I Wanted To Show Something Only I Could Do' Togeworl Singer Says

Of all the songs on the K-pop charts right now, there is nothing quite like Lim Kim.

"A Voice," the new solo album from Togeworl (or "Two Months") singer Kim Ye Rim is understated but dance-y, funky but surreal.

Whatever it is, it is distinctly Lim Kim.

In an interview published on Monday, the singer explained to CJ E&M enewsWorld the circumstances that created such an original sounding album.

"The decision for [Do Dae Yoon of Togeworl] to go back to the States was made suddenly," Kim said.

"He had to graduate high school. I′m sorry about that because we had been working together. Still, we got to work together on the track 'Number One' and Dae Yoon did all the male parts for my promotional single 'All Right.'"

But it was her former bandmate leaving South Korea that led her to the unique sound of the songs on "A Voice," Kim explained.

"I started working alone, and everything changed," she said.

"The music I could do as Togeworl and the music I could do alone turned out to be very different. I wanted to show something only I could do."

Kim claims it was her goal to make the album a true reflection of who she is and what her voice sounds like.

"I hope it just turns out to be me," the singer said.

"Rather than dress myself up, I want to deliver the message contained in the lyrics with my own natural voice. It is true I′ve been maturing, but I just wanted to show who I am within the limits of my own abilities. I tried not to be what I′m not because I wanted to show how I change."

Kim's band Togeworl rose to prominence on the Mnet reality Show "Superstar K."

The singer reflected positively about that time.

"It was awesome. I came to Korea after I decided on an agency the year after I appeared on 'Superstar K3' in 2011," she said.

"Two, three years just went by so fast. When I look back, it makes me wonder. I also thought I should work harder after receiving songs from and getting to work with great artists. I need to work hard, not just think it was all luck. I learned a lot."

Guest artists on Lim Kim's "A Voice" album include Jo Jung Chi, Ha Rim, Lee Sang Soon, Shin Jae Pyung of Peppertones and Jo Hyoo Il of The Black Skirts.
