Pokemon X And Y Pokedex Rumors: Theories On The Legendary Trio, And Comparing Xerneas and Yveltal To Previous Generations

With Pokemon X and Pokemon Y ready to release on the 3DS October 12, fans are eagerly anticipating news on the latest legendary Pokemon being added to the Pokedex, and given the previous generations' patterns, for several more to join the roster.

By now, most fans know the existence of the three legendary Pokemon introduced so far: Xerneas, Yveltal, and Mewtwo's new form.

Xerneas and Yveltal are the two legendary Pokemon selected to appear on the X and Y covers. Outside of the letters that begin their names, Yveltal can easily be recognized as the flagship Pokemon representative of Pokemon Y due to its body shape. Meanwhile, Xerneas' glint is that of an X-shape.

As depicted by this nifty compilation image here, fans can see how Xerneas and Yveltal stack up against its predecessors in the Pokdex, including Ho-Oh and Lugia from Gold and Silver, Latios and Latias from Ruby and Sapphire, and Manaphy and Phione from Diamond and Pearl.

But despite all the attention being put on Mewtwo, given his appearance in the upcoming Pokemon movie "ExtremeSpeed Genesect: Mewtwo Awaken," the next lingering question about X and Y is the traditional legendary trio.

Long time Pokemon fans will notice that a trio of legendary Pokemon always exist within each generation's Pokedex. This include the classic legendary birds (Moltres, Articuno, Zapdos), the "Regi" trio (Regice, Registeel, Regirock), and the "Kami" trio (Tornadus, Landorus, Thundurus).

Which begs the question, what will the sixth generation legendary trio look like?

An interesting rumor within the Marriland forums is that Pokemon X and Y takes from Norse mythology, particularly that of Yggdrasil.

A forum contributor posts that in Yggdrasil, with "the top of the tree kept by a bird (Yveltal) there's a lake" with three maidens that look over the tree.

They are "the maidens 'incised the slip of wood,' 'laid down laws,' 'and chose lives.'"

If this theory is true, can you guess what their types will be?

Of course, the other theory is that with Mewtwo making a comeback, more original legendary Pokemon will join him with new forms.

Only time will tell what Nintendo will choose to do with the legendary Pokemon.
