Doctor Who Mystery Teaser Trailer Explained [VIDEO]: Merchandising Campaign Disappoints Fans Hoping For Season 8, 50th Anniversary Spoilers

"Doctor Who" fans were briefly caught up in a frenzy after the release of the mysterious "#thefourth" teaser trailer. Sadly, it has been confirmed to be a merchandising campaign for the "Terror of the Zygons" DVD release.

In a second trailer, a DVD case is shown with the "Terror of the Zygons" title. And while fans have been anticipating the release of the final Fourth Doctor story, others can't help but be disappointed that it wasn't related to the 50th Anniversary Special.

"For people disappointed that this was just a trailer for the 'Terror of the Zygons' DVD (as I think most of us are by this point), I urge you to send the BBC your hatred and disappointment though email, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc," writes Youtuber TheAfroThunder1.

"Maybe then they'll start taking the 50th F**KING SERIOUSLY and stop trying to mislead us fans."

Others, however, have stepped up to defend the "Doctor Who" merchandising campaign.

"This is a basic case of fans transplanting their deepest fantasy on reality and then getting upset when reality turns out to be different," replies alcoremortis.

"It's the equivalent of getting mad at someone because you had a dream where they bought you a car and then on your birthday, they gave you a book about cars."

Still, with "Doctor Who" 50th Anniversary Special receiving so much buzz and anticipation, it's hard not to sympathize with disappointed fans.
