American Horror Story Season 3 Coven [RUMOR]: Salem Witch Trials Shoot Moves To Louisiana, And Who Is Delphine LaLaurie?

With FX set to premiere "American Horror Story" season three, entitled "Coven," the cast of the horror anthology series have given a few hints at what may possibly befall in this witching season, including the possible portrayal of Louisiana socialite Delphine LaLaurie.

Is has long been reported that Kathy Bates is set to join the season three cast along with Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, and Taissa Famiga.

What has stirred the rumor mill, however, is that Murphy has also confirmed that Bates' character is inspired by something, or someone, that "actually happened."

"Kathy's never [played] someone this bad. Her [character] is a bad, bad woman!" teased Murphy to TV Line.

"When I pitched this to Kathy, her mouth was drop-jawed because what I was pitching actually happened. It's a true event. You'll see. It's some good stuff."

Add to the fact that actress Francis Conroy has confirmed part of production will shoot in New Orleans, Louisiana, and the general consensus is that Bates will portray none other than the infamous Marie Delphine LaLaurie.

Reportedly, LaLaurie was a Louisiana-born socialite from the 1800's who was a serial murderer that imprisoned and tortured black slaves.

Writer and sociologist Harriet Martineau recounted tales in her book "Retrospect of Western Travel" that LaLaurie hid slaves who were emaciated, whip-beaten, bound, and forced to keep their heads in a static position from spiked iron collars.

One thing is certain, if Bates is playing anyone more evil than her "Misery" persona, it would be Delphine LaLaurie.

The other all-but-confirmed rumor is that "American Horror Story: Coven" is based on the events of the Salem Witch Trials.

"I sorta feel like for the third version I want to do something that's a little bit more 'evil glamour,'" said Murphy in January.

"We're contemplating shooting [season 3] in a place in the country where true horror has been. We've got lots of delicious plans."

With witchcraft, torture, and of course, horror, "American Horror Story" season three is set to premiere in October.
