Middleboro shooting behind police station early yesterday morning killed a woman and triggered a gun battle with cops. Charges have been filed against the suspected gunman in the Middleboro shooting. The woman died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Plymouth County District Attorney’s office charged Thomas Buttimer, 52, with possession of a firearm and intent to murder police officers. Authorities identified the woman as 65-year-old Norma DesRoche.

The Middleboro Shooting behind police station occurred in a rural area, in a house that was only accessible by a dirt road and was completely surrounded by woods. Middleboro police officers responded just after midnight and the found Norma DesRouche bleeding and her husband and another individual trying to revive her with CPR. The woman later died later at a local hospital.

News reports said that the neighbors in the rural area had complained about gunfire in the past, but that they knew this was more serious because of the intensity of the gunfire.

Tyler Lambert, an area resident who lives two doors down from the home said: “We heard like fifteen gunshots one right after the other. I mean the gunshots were enough vibrate the windows on the house. That’s why we thought something was wrong, because it was too much. Like 15, right after another. “It was powerful enough that it shook this door,” Labert said pointing to his glass front storm door. “It shook the windows. Then all the sudden there was like 17 cop cars.”

Three police vehicles, a fire truck, and an ambulance were involved in the response. Eight police officers responded, including the chief of police. While the police investigated the scene, Buttimer appeared in the driveway carrying a long-barrel rifle. When he refused to drop the weapon, the police shot him.

The Middleboro shooter is being treated in a local hospital. He was known to the victim and had been staying at the Highland Street residence. He is expected to survive to face the charges. The shooting is still under investigation. Authorities have not commented on any motives for the attack.
