Roy Kim Apologizes To Jang Bum June Of Busker Busker For His Sarcastic Onstage Comments About Plagiarism Accusations

K-pop chart-topper and "Superstar K4" winner Roy Kim found himself in the position of having to defend sarcastic comments made onstage on Saturday, according to the publication eNews.

Just as the singer-songwriter was about to launch into his hit song "Anthem," he instead launched into a tirade against those who had accused him of plagiarizing the song from South Korean indie band Busker Busker.

"I wrote this song after being inspired by a video of Busker Busker′s Jang Bum June singing at a wedding," Roy said.

"Some members of the public, however, criticized me for that. I took [the main part] from the "Wedding March," and that means I didn′t take it from [Jang Bum June′s song]. I did write this song. If you still don′t think it′s right, I′ll mention Jang Bum June every time I sing this song."

At a private concert on Sunday, the "Bom Bom Bom" singer apologized for his statements from the previous day.

"I'm sorry I caused trouble yesterday with my rash words," Roy said. "I also want to apologize to my senior Jang Bum June."

The singer and guitar player also took to Twitter before Sunday's show to apologize for the onstage rant.

"I′m sorry for causing trouble yesterday," Roy tweeted.

"I′m also a big fan of [Jang Bum June′s] music, and I didn′t mean to cause harm to his fans. I′ll try to be more careful with my words and actions in the future."

According to a representative from Roy Kim's record label, the backlash from his onstage comments completely caught the singer off guard.

"He didn′t mean it to, but the incident really blew up and now he's sorry toward everyone," the rep said.

The backlash Roy has faced with "Anthem" was not the first the musician's first experience dealing with plagiarism charges.

Back in April, the Roy Kim song "Bom Bom Bom" which spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100, was accused by some fans of being a rip-off of Kim Kwang Suk's "Where The Wind Blows" and A-ha's "Take On Me."

A representative for Roy told the news outlet OSEN that the accusations were absurd.

"Saying that Roy Kim's 'Bom Bom Bom' is plagiarized is a ridiculous accusation," the rep said.

"We asked experts and after they analyzed it, they said that this is not a case of plagiarism...Roy Kim did reveal that Kim Kwang Suk is one of his favorite artists but these plagiarism accusations do not make sense."
