Pokemon X And Y Starters Evolution Dual Type Rumors: Leaked Pokedex Names Ignite Fan Theories

As Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are set to be launched October 12 worldwide, more rumors on the starters and their dual-types upon evolution have surfaced.

As of now, fans all recognize the names and images of Chespin (Grass), Fennekin (Fire), and Froakie (Water), recent leaked Japanese Pokemon names could point to what their evolutions' dual-types might be.

For Chespin, the Hariboogu and Burigaron seem most fitting as evolutions.

According to a team of experts at Pokejungle, hari means pin/needle, and boogu could a combination bougu (armor) and bogue (French term for the shell of a chestnut).

Burigaron, on the other hand, could be a combination of Buriga (brigandine armor) and marron (French term for chestnut). In other words, Chespin might develop its own natural armor and could point to a Grass/Steel or Grass/Rock dual-type upon evolution.

Fennekin has involved rumors about retaining Fire/Psychic dual-type evolutions, and the names Mafokushii and Teerunaa may support that.

Ma means magic, while Fokushii's translation is foxy. So the name definitely hints at a fox sorcerer type Pokemon. Meanwhile, Teeruna literally means tail/lunar, which matches the general emphasize on foxes and their tails (remember Nintails?).

And finally, Froakie seems to match up with the names Gekkouga and Gekogashira.

Gekkouga could be derived from the words gek (frog) and kouga (Koga-ryu, a school of ninjutsu). And gekogashira seems to be a combination of gekogeko (onomatopoeic term for frog noises) and gashira (head).

All in all, rumors on Froakie is that its evolutions will be Water/Fighting dual-types.

Of course, all this remains rumors and theories, but given the myriad of fan interpretations of these starters, like this and this, the dual-type speculations seem highly plausible.
