Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny Tell Comic-Con They’re Ready for New X-Files Movie; I Want to Believe, but …. I trust no one

FBI Agent Dana Scully may be back on the case. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, who played Fox “Spooky” Molder, were at Comic Con in San Diego celebrating twenty years of “The X-Files” when someone asked if they might do a limited TV run, like the recently announced mini-run of the Kiefer Sutherland spy series 24, and Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny both said they had no interest in returning to TV, but, Anderson admitted “a film would be great.”

David Duchovny, agreed. He is ready to put on his simple black suit and non-descript tie. Duchovny said “I think we could do it forever. I always thought whenever we can do it – come back together – we would.”

While Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny might be ready to get out their flashlights, “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter didn’t crack under Comic-Con pressure. The crowd, though, was ready to believe. They cheered in approval. And now the X-Files speculation begins.

“The X-Files” was a television show following in the tradition of mystery detective shows like “The Night Stalker” that became a major cult hit and geek obsession when it ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson played FBI agents who investigated unexplained phenomenon and odd monster people while looking for Duchovny’s long-lost sister who disappeared in a UFO when he was a kid. Two movies were made of series, one filled in the gaps over the summer break, the other made when the series ended.

One of the things that kept bringing people back to the show was the sexual tension between the Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. Duchovny, who must not have actually seen the movies he acted in, maybe because he was picking up women at Sex Addicts Anonymous, wondered out loud on the panel whether Mulder and Scully ever had sex. Anderson reminded him, “Well, something happened. Because we have a child.”

When a Comic Con fan of The X Files asked what Mulder and Scully would do on a date, Anderson said, “Have sex!” Duchovny added, “After dinner.”

Maybe they can reunite on “Californication.”
