Nokia Lumia 1020 specs have been finally unveiled by the Finnish tech giant last Thursday, shocking many with a powerful 41-megapixel sensor. The camera specs of the new device is far higher than iPhone’s 8 megapixels and Samsung Galaxy S4’s 13 megapixels according to the Associated Press.

The Lumia 2010 will be available for sale in the U.S. on July 26, but the company will start taking pre-orders on July 16. American carrier, AT&T will offer the Nokia Lumia 1020 for $300 with a two-year service agreement, which is $100-200 more than what phones tied-in to contracts typically sell for.

The Associated Press reported that the phone’s 41-megapixel sensor and image-stabilizing technology, both features that are rare in today’s smartphones, the user is less likely to get blurry shots at night or indoors. The device can also zoom in an image and pick up the details that even the naked eye will miss.

The former powerhouse of mobile technology is hoping to lure people back from iPhones and Android phones with a powerful smartphone camera designed to provide sharp images, even in low light.

Nokia reasons that although more expensive cameras with superior lenses can take better images, they are not always portable and handy like a smartphone. The company reasons that Lumia 1020 gives people the ability to take good pictures with a device they always carry.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 runs on Microsoft’s Windows Phone system, which is way behind the iOS and Android devices in usage. Although Nokia, AT&T and Microsoft Corp. intends to do a large marketing push in the U.S., no amount of marketing can overcome the fact that the Windows system still doesn’t have as much apps from outside parties as the iPhone and Android devices has, noted the Associated Press.

The principal device analyst at research firm Ovum, Tony Cripps, said that Nokia “may still have work to do to convince prospective buyers to sacrifice favourite apps for superior imaging.” He also said that the new smartphone’s leading rivals like the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 “effectively sell themselves, (but) the case for selecting Lumia 1020 is less clear cut.”
