Loretta Lynn’s Eldest Daughter Dies at 64; Country Icon Has Lost Two Children

Loretta Lynn’s oldest daughter, Betty Sue Lynn, died at 64, according to a family representative. The country icon’s oldest daughter died Monday from complications of emphysema in Waverly, Tenn., near Loretta Lynn's ranch in Hurricane Mills.

The long-time country star Loretta Lynn and her late husband Doolittle "Mooney" Lynn have six children including Clara Marie, 62, Ernest Ray, 54, and twins Peggy and Patsy, 49. Her oldest, Betty Sue Lynn, is survived by two daughters, Lynn Markworth and Audrey Dryer. Betty Sue Lynn also had five grandchildren. Loretta Lynn was born in eastern Kentucky’a coalfields. Loretta Lynn wrote 'autobiographically of her life in “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” the name of a song and the book she wrote which was later made into the movie starring Sissy Spacek. Betty Sue Lynn is the second of Loretta Lynn's children to die before her. In 1984, Lynn's eldest son, 34-year-old Jack Benny Lynn, drowned while trying to cross the Duck River, near Waverly, Tenn., on horseback on the family's property.
Loretta Lynn’s issued a statement on Facebook Monday to thank her fans for the support they have shown the family in their time of mourning. The statement said, "The Lynn Family appreciates all your prayers, love, and support of our family’s loss."

Friends of the Lynn family, like country music star Reba McEntire, have been expressing their sorrow and condolences on social media.

Country singer Loretta Lynn is a country music institution. She was won Grammys and several awards at the Country Music Awards. Loretta Lynn, who is 81, gave a concert in Washington, D.C., at the 9:30 Club on Friday. Lynn is scheduled to go back on the road. The next show she is scheduled to play is a sold-out show at the Isle of Capri Casino in Boonville, Mo., on Aug. 9. The country star will also play Los Angeles and Texas on her tour.
