Big Bang G-Dragon's Mysterious Use Of The Number '8' - Eight Guesses What The Big Bang Leader Is Up To

G-Dragon is expected to drop his highly anticipated second studio album on August 18, and he has been leaving his fans some rather confusing clues on social media.

Recently many of the Big Bang leader's posts on Twitter and Instagram have involved hashtags with the number '8'.

August 1, G-Dragon tweeted, "Everyone, it's finally August. My second solo album will be out soon and by last encore concert will be held (in Seoul, Korea) on August 31 and September 1. I am doing an all-nighter for the album today as always so please look forward to my album. #8″

Also today he uploaded a picture of the number along with the caption, "#8+#88=#888," on to his Instagram account.

On July 31, he tweeted, One more thing. Please look forward to and enjoy Kang Seung Yoon's 'WILD&YOUNG', and the upcoming Seungri album, Taeyang album, and 2NE1 album. YG FAM is doing it again. #ygfamily #ygbaby #one #8"

This comes after revealing a picture of him with world famous DJ Skrillex last week, also including the hashtag, "#88."

On August 1, his agency, YG Entertainment, claimed they "have no idea" what the picture and codes mean.

There has been a whole lot of speculation about G-Dragon's mysterious use of the number 8 - so here are eight guesses as to what it could mean.

1. The title of the album or first single.  Maybe G-Dragon is taking a page from label-mates Epik High whose last release was titled 99, saying that the number 9 had significant meaning to the members.  Or maybe the new album's title track will be called "8."

2. The number of tracks.  While eight songs seems like a rather short album, '8' could be in reference to the number of tracks we can expect to see on the upcoming album.  It could also refer to the number of 'new' songs featured (as it may also include previous releases like "MichiGO.")

3. The number of collaborations.  There have been a whole lot of famous musicians in and out of the YG headquarters in Seoul in the past couple weeks and American rapper Missy Elliot already confirmed that she worked on two tracks for the album with GD.  Has G-Dragon worked with eight different featured artists?

4. A reference to his birthday.  G-Dragon was born on August 18, 1988 - that's a whole lot of eights!  Skrillex was also born in 1988, which may explain why his hashtag was '#88.'

5. A reference to himself.  Along with the birhtday thing, G-Dragon's name, Ji-Yong, also comes from his birthday.  Yong is the Korean word for 'dragon' and he was born in the year of the dragon.

6. A release schedule.  When rookie singer and fellow YG Family member Lee Hi released her first album in March of this year, it followed the scedule of first the single release, then the first half of the album, and finally the second half at the end of the month.  Could we expect a similar structure for G-Dragon's upcoming release?

7. Support for his label mates.  G-Dragon isn't the only one at YG with a busy August schedule.  Big Bang group mate Seungri will also make his solo comeback this month, girl group 2NE1 has a new single coming out, and the momentum was started July 31 with both Kang Seung Yoon and Daesung putting out new releases.  August is going to be a very YG-focused month!

8. He just loves the number 8.  G-Dragon has said his favorite number is 8.  He began in the industry as a trainee under SM Entertainment at age 8.  He released his first album Heartbreaker on August 18 (2009) and his second will drop on the same day this year.
