iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 Release Date: Apple Execs Hints At Fall Launch Of New Devices, Specs Predictions Include Larger, IGZO-based LCD Screen

The iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 release dates have ranged from the June start of the WWDC to September, to some even suggesting that it’s happening early 2014.

But base on recent speculations and rumors and looking back at the hints that some Apple execs suggest, the fall of 2014 maybe the opportune time for the Cupertino tech giant to finally release its big guns…namely it’s highly popular smartphones.

According to Experts Review, in a call with investors, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at an autumn launch for Apple’s hardware products.

“Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services that we can’t wait to introduce this fall and throughout 2014,” Cook said in the conference call.

Last June when the company announced and gave a demo of iOS 7, the Jonathan Ive-inspired overhaul of Apple’s mobile operating system, Apple announced that it will be available for download in the fall.

In a more recent earnings call, Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO said that the company will have “a very busy fall” and that he would give “more details in October,”

Judging by all the hints, the best guess is that the iPhone 5S will be released late September or early October, with the iPhone 6 to follow in 2014 according to Expert Reviews UK.

Larger display for new iPhones

Analysts and reporters from InfoWorld predict that the new iPhone 5S will have an Indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) screen. The IGZO is the newest technology for LCD screens and analysts are speculating that Apple will be the first to adopt it. Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chodhry predicted earlier this year that Apple would move to the IGZP for the iPhone, iPad, and some MacBooks, explaining the decrease in the number of order for LCD screens out of Cupertino.

The IGZO allows for a brighter screen that needs less power and can be manipulated into curved shapes. It is not as expensive as the low-temperature polysilicon screen Apple is currently using and is 40 times more responsive than traditional LCD screens. The IGZO technology responds well to pen input if Apple decides to take advantage of this feature. Since Apple has been using styli since the 1993 Newton MessagePad, it is unlikely the will switch right away.
