SM Entertainment Forms 'Woollim Label' - 'We Will Take Our Place As The First Major Global Music Group In Korea'

SM Entertainment is well on its way to Asian market domination.

On August 9, SM C&C announced a merger with Woollim Entertainment to form Woollim Label, an independent subsidiary of the larger company.

The music produced under Woollim Label will differ from the standard SMP (SM Music Performance) genre popular among the company's biggest acts since the era of first-generation idols and will include a variety of eclectic artists and sounds.

This also means good news for artists who now find themselves under the new label, such as INFINITE, Nell, and Tasty, as the global power and influence of SM will help further spread their music to fans around the world.

In a statement released on August 9 regarding the new Woollim Label, SM Entertainment said, "SM Entertainment will run its global music distribution and additional business while C will take charge of the label's functions."

"In terms of business structure and scale, we will acquire international competitiveness and will stand as Asia's premiere music which will be able to compete with major global music groups," the statement continued.

The artists originally signed to Woollim Entertainment now will also contribute to the SM group's total sales and profits, and help to increase the company's power in the international music industry.

SM Entertainment ended by declaring, "We will take our place as the first major global music group in Korea."
