Crayon Pop’s Chinese Fans Wear Helmets

Crayon Pop's popularity isn't limited by national borders.

On August 13 Crayon Pop said, 'Last weekend we came back from Qingdao Beer Festival. We were so pleasantly surprised because the local fans were cheering us on in Korean just like our Korean fans.'

Gum Mi said, 'Our concert site was in Qingdao, but we were told many fans traveled by train and plane from afar to see us. I was happy and sorry to hear that they waited a long time for us. I was even more surprised that they showed up wearing helmets.'

Crayon Pop was invited to 'The 23rd Qingdao International Beer Festival' on August 9, where they opened the stage with two songs, 'Bar Bar Bar' and 'Bing Bing,' and were greeted by excited fans. At this festival, Crayon Pop was the only Korean group to be invited. According to their agency Crayon Pop is currently touring Asia because of their many invitations, including China and Japan.

On August 4 they left for Tokyo, Japan, and had a fan meeting there. Because the location was decided before they became so popular, it was not big enough for all the fans that showed up. Some even had to stand outside.

Thanks to their recent popularity, they have signed a strategic cooperation agreement with world-renown Sony Music. Following the footsteps of Psy's 'Gangnam Style,' Crayon Pop likewise has entered the global market where Korea's music contents are quickly becoming more popular. Crayon Pop's music video 'Bar Bar Bar' has gained considerable appeal, and is playing a big part in their promotion activities.

Twin members Way and Cho A said, 'Our agency family was really happy for us, and we were amazed as well. Seeing all the people welcome us made us feel really good. And our contract with Sony Music was something we never imaged would happen. If there's one thing we're sure of, it's that we really did our best.'

Crayon Pop's global activity is just starting. On MTV IGGy's rising artist vote, Crayon Pop ranked number 1. MTV IGGY said, 'Crayon Pop has gained all their fans with their cute and unique choreography and disco sound' in introducing the group.

Korea's Wall Street Journal wrote on August 7, 'Serial five-cylinder Engine dancers Crayon Pop, will they be the next Psy?' Australia's News.com wrote, 'Korean girl group Crayon Pop wants their song 'Bar Bar Bar' to be a reason to laugh,' comparing Crayon Pop's five cylinder dance to Psy's horse dance.

Crayon Pop members said, 'As we have always said, Psy is our role model. We're just thankful that we're even being compared on the same level as him. Compared to him we are just babies, so it is a great honor.'

When asked their goals for the year, their answer was not unlike that of so many other new groups. They want the Rookie of the Year Award. Crayon Pop said, 'Although there are so many worthy contestants, since there is only one chance to receive this award, we really want to earn it. We will work hard on our next song to become a group you can love, so please continue to watch out for us.'
