Pepsi-Flavored Cheetos Big in Japan; Can’t Wait? You Can Get Them On eBay but They Don’t Quench Your Thirst While You Eat Them

Pepsi-flavored Cheetos are now available in Japan. You can’t get Pepsi-flavored Cheetos on store shelves in America yet, but you can order them on eBay.

Pepsi-flavored Cheetos are the latest wacky snack to make their appearance, according to FoxNews.com. Pepsi-flavored Cheetos join waffles potato chips and bacon popcorn and Screaming Yellow Zonkers. Taco Bell mashed three different flavored Doritos into Taco shells. Oreo mashes several flavor combinations, like Rainbow Sherbet Ice Cream Oreos or Green Tea Oreos, which are only sold in Japan.

Steve from The Impulse Buy wrote, “These Pepsi-flavored Cheetos are the latest food hybrid to spit in the eye of Mother Nature.”

The Frito Lay Cheetos x Pepsi Shuwa Shuwa Cola Corn Snack that are sold in Japan are regular Cheetos that are covered in a powder that produces fizz. The Impulsive Buy review says that Pepsi-flavored Cheetos make your mouth fizz with a “definite popping and crackling.”

The Pepsi-flavored Cheetos smell like flat cola and cinnamon donuts and taste like citrus.

But you can’t get Pepsi-flavored Cheetos in America, unless you have it shipped by eBay.

So when will Pepsi-flavored Cheetos be available in the United States? We don’t know, Jeff Dahncke, a Frito-Lay spokesman says that there are no plans right now to bring Pepsi-flavored Cheetos to the United States. But he says Frito-Lay is jumping on an international food trend, flavor mashing

Lynn Dornblaser, who is an expert on new products at Mintel, a research firm, says “Mixing flavors like Cheetos and Pepsi "speaks to consumers' short attention spans. Consumers all want something absolutely new that's never been seen before."

Steve Witherly, who wrote the book “Why Humans Like Junk Food, says the food-industry calls the mash-ups, “mouth surprise.” He said, "The mouth doesn't anticipate the combo, which actually makes it more pleasurable to the brain. If something looks like a Cheeto but tastes like a Pepsi, it wakes up the brain."
