Raquel Welch Today 2013: Will Star With Gina Gershon in Versace TV Biopic Lifetime

Raquel Welch today is still at work. The Sixties sex icon will be starring with Gina Gershon in a TV movie about Donatella Versace that will run on the Lifetime Network. “House of Versace” starring Raquel Welch will follow the Italian fashion designers life after she commandeered the fashion empire after the murder of her brother Gianni in 1997.

Gina Gershon will play Donatella Versace and Raquel Welch will be playing her aunt, Lucia. Gina Gershon was last seen in “Killer Joe.” Enrico Colantoni from “Veronica Mars” will play Gianni Versace and their brother Santo will be played by Colm Feore from “Thor.”

October is turning into Fashion Month on the Lifetime Channel. Besides the “House of Versace” film featuring Raquel Welch, they are also planning a documentary on Gianni Versace. Raquel Welch and Gina Gershon are signed to star in the Lifetime Biopice of Donatella Versace.

“House of Versace” is based on the book “House Of Versace: The Untold Story Of Genius, Murder And Survival” by Wall Street Journal reporter Deborah Ball. Donatella was heavily criticized when she took over the House of Versace, became addicted to drugs and brought the company to the edge of bankruptcy. Donatella’s aunt, Lucia (Raquel Welch), along with her daughter Allegra and her brother Santo made her go to rehab and when she returned she brought new life into the Versace brand by infusing it with her own vision.

“House of Versace” directed by Sara Sugarman who made “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.” The screenplay was written by Rama Stagner, who also penned “American Dreams.” The movie is being produced and paid for by MarVista Entertainment with Fernando Szew, who recently made Lifetime's “Sexting in Suburbia.” It is being executive produced by Ronald Gilbert who last worked on “Every Thing Will Be Fine” and Robyn Snyder who made “16 Wishes.” The biopic is being produced by Ric Nish from “Nicky Deuce.”

“House of Versace” will premiere on Lifetime on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. It will immediately be followed by the “Versace: Beyond the Headlines” documentary, which traces Gianni Versace's career in the fashion business through his rise as head of the multimillion-dollar fashion empire right until his death in 1997.
