Prince Tweets New Single Artwork Featuring Dave Chappelle; Is it a Joke? Wait, Prince Tweets? (Video)

Dave Chappelle is gracing the artwork for the new Prince single, “Breakfast Can Wait,” and he’s appearing as Prince. The Prince cover artwork recreates one of Dave Chappelle’s most famous bits. When Dave Chappelle played Prince for laughs in 2004.

Prince took to Twitter to preview the new Dave Chapelle cover artwork for upcoming “Breakfast Can Wait” single. Dave Chappelle put back on the threads he wore in the “Chappelle’s Show” skit called “Prince.”

In the skit, Dave Chappelle plays Prince wearing a purple frilly thing on a basketball court and leads his team, which was made up of his band, the Revolution, in a game of hoops against Charlie Murphy and other players from “Chappelle’s Show”’s ensemble players. The skit has Charlie Murphy talking about visiting Prince with his brother Eddie Murphy.

The opposing team distinguished each other by wearing “shirts versus blouses.”

Of course, Prince’s team wins. And he offers Murphys team breakfast.

Murphy confesses “I gotta admit … it was a good game.”

Prince, Dave Chappelle, doesn’t miss a beat. As his popping pankcakes into the other team’s plates he chides “I wish I could say the same for you and your team of flunkies.”

Hence, it is perfect for a record from Prince called “Breakfast Can Wait.”

Dave Chappelle is famous for being a recluse. Prince is famous for being, well Princely. He has that aura of mystery and he’s got the chops to back it up. He’s not well-known for his sense of humor, but he got some laughs on Saturday Night Live.

Dave Chappelle’s show, “Chappelle’s Show” rose to the top on Comedy Central and when he thought he was getting too famous, Chappelle disappeared and has been rarely seen since 2005. Well, the weed must have run out, cos Chappelle is heading back out on the road for a 15-city tour called the “Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival.”

Prince tweeted the image on Friday, along with a link to his website and a teaser from the song. Prince only opened the Twitter account on Aug. 13, The account is named after his band, the all-female trio 3rd Eye Girl, and the account is called @3rdEyeGirl. So far all of his tweets have been jokes. And this might just be another one.

Prince embraced online sales early and at times in his career that was the only place you could get his music.
